The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education proves an incredible place to explore the beauty, complexity and importance of the natural world. Surrounding the main building where exhibits and information are available, three miles of hiking trails wind through the center's 240 acres and allow access to a variety of habitats including meadows, forests and ponds. Summer camps, after school programs and group events provide any number of age-suitable environmentally-focused activities and projects for children and teens. There are a wide variety of events for the general public that take place throughout the year as well as special projects like the organic community garden for motivated individuals to take part in. Situated in northwest Philadelphia, near the Andorra Shopping Center, the nature preserve is a wonderful change from the concrete maze of the city.
Trails open daily 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Main building open Mon. - Sat. 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Closed Sun.
