Bartram's Garden refers to the historical grounds that contain the house, farm buildings, cider press, and botanical gardens of the great naturalist and explorer John Bartram. An important piece of history for gardeners and growers, the botanical gardens are the oldest of their kind in the country. Visitors can take guided tours of the house and garden, or simply wander through the grounds, observing a wildflower meadow, majestic trees, various wetlands, and other outdoor attractions. It encompasses 45 acres near downtown Philadelphia, near the banks of the Schuykill River about two miles southwest of the University of Pennsylvania.
Open daily 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; House tours offered Mar - mid-Dec: Tue. - Sun. noon - 4:00 p.m.
Free entry. Tours: Adults $5; Seniors (62+) and Students $4; Children 12 and under are free.
