While the Johnson House's 1768 construction and resultant 18th century architecture alone make it a valuable site for exploring local and national history, it's the secret operations that happened within that make it truly amazing. During the mid-1800s, it served as a stop along the Underground Railroad for escaped slaves making their way to the free states of the north. Now the home is open for tours, serving as a museum and monument to the daring of the freedom-seeking slaves and their proponents. Located in the posh Germantown neighborhood, the history-making house is near other old homes and buildings such as Wyck and Cliveden.
